My C.V. Without Twitter - 2020 Edition

This is an update to a previous post. Folks who see twitter as something full of cat videos and the president’s latest thoughts often laugh when I tell them that twitter has been incredibly valuable to me, starting as a grad student, and now as a professional scientist.

To make this point a bit more clear I thought I would show what wouldn’t be on my CV without twitter. Anything crossed out wouldn’t have existed, because I met one or more key people via twitter. That isn’t to say that I couldn’t have met some of those folks through more ‘traditional’ means, but for some, who live on other continents, it seems much less likely.

My postdoc position is crossed out, becuase I know that my publication record as a finishing up PhD student was a big part of why I got that position, and that publication record was greatly aided by my papers with twitter colleagues.

Some things are hard to know whether or not to ‘count’ for twitter, as things snowball, so I’ve tried to be more conservative and not cross things off if I wasn’t sure.
